ST. LOUIS - The Valley Lutheran volleyball team grew taller and taller with each tournament this year, capturing its first regional title since 1983.
It looked like a giant early in Tuesday's Class C quarterfinal match with Morley-Stanwood, winning the first two games in thrilling fashion over the No. 2 ranked team in the coaches poll.
But the Mohawks stood a little bit taller Tuesday.

NORTH BRANCH — It started to look real bleak for Frankenmuth in its Class B state quarterfinal matchup Tuesday against Marysville.
Down 18-8 in a do-or-die fourth set and with little momentum, it looked like it may have been over for the Eagles.

The Chargers won thier Class C Regional volleyball championship over Unionville Sebewaing Thursday sweeping them 3-0 at Reese. It was the first regional title for valley lutheran since 1983.
The Chargers won by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-22.
The only real challenge was in the third game when USA held a slim 21-20 lead. Junior Sam Shafer rallied the team serving an ace and the Chargers won the next three points and won the match for the title.

Frankenmuth defeated Mt. Morris 3-2 in the Class B regional volleyball semifinal Tuesday at Mt. Morris Junior High.
The Eagles won 25-16, 25-27, 16-25, 25-19, 15-10.

SAGINAW TOWNSHIP -- Midland High's volleyball team was methodical and determined in Tuesday's Class A district volleyball opener against Bay City Central at Saginaw Heritage High School.

The Hawks won the maych with scores of 25-7, 25-11 and 25-8.

Bay City Western defeated visiting Swan Valley 3-1 in non league volleyball action on Monday during it's "Battle for the Cure" match-up.

The Hawks fell to host Mt Pleasant in a hard fought match losing 3-0 in SVL action Thursday. The Oilers, hosting their "Big Pink" event to raise awareness and money for breast cancer defeated the Hawks 25-20, 25-16, 25-20.

The Chemics improved to 7-0 in Saginaw Valley league action with a 3-0 pounding of visiting Saginaw high on Thursday.
Midland High won easily in straight sets 25-5, 25-4 and 25-10.

Bay City Central had no trouble in defeating Saginaw Valley League foe Saginaw High Tuesday at home. The Wolves devoured the Trojans in straight sets 25-2, 25-6 and 25-3.

Midland High won the first set 25-18 but Dow fought back knotting up the match with a 25-15 win in the second set.
