Saginaw Valley Lutheran outscored Merrill 29-11 in the first half en route to the 21-point win.
Samantha Shafer led Valley Lutheran (15-1, 11-0 Tri-Valley Conference) with 18 points, and Sarah Appold added 12 points and 12 rebounds.

CHESANING - The Indians' Chaszi Beckman sunk the game winning shot to beat visiting Merrill 28-27 in girls basketball Thursday.
Beckman had a game high 17 points in a low scoring game where only the Indains shot in double digits in a quarter.
Chesaning trailed 14-10 at the half, but a 14 point third quarter put them ahead 24-18 at the start of the fourth.

Bullock Creek took less than a one-point lead into the final round before outscoring Merrill 299.8-296.3.

ST. CHARLES - St. Charles beat Merrill 44-35 in TVC West girls basketball on Tuesday. Free throws hurt the Vandals as they shot 17 of 38 at the line.
The Vandals led by a slim19-18 margin at halftime, but the Bulldogs came out strong in the second half outscoring Merrill 26-16 to notch the win.
Kyleigh Buckley tallied 8 points, 8 rebounds, while Jackie Peake added 8 points and 4 steals for Merrill.

MERRILL — Michigan Lutheran Seminary had three players score in double figures and two more finish with nine in an 81-46 road win over Merrill on Tuesday.

MERRILL — Karli Herrington notched her third straight double-double Friday night to power Hemlock to a 55-4 victory over Merrill.
Herrington, a sophomore, posted 17 points, 10 rebounds and five blocks for the Huskies, which improved to 3-0 overall.

MERRILL — Kyleigh Buckley had the heroics first for Merrill, hitting the game-tying free throw with 5 seconds left to send the game to overtime.
But when it reached overtime, St. Charles took over, scoring the first five points and winning over the Vandals, 47-37 in an overtime thriller. It was the first win of the season for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs outscored Merrill in the extra frame, 11-1.

MOUNT PLEASANT - Merrill had the momentum, the lead and seemingly was well on its way to a first-round Division 8 district football win over Mount Pleasant Sacred Heart.

Merrill rallied in the second half Friday for a 38-20 win over visiting Vestaburg and and edged into the playoffs in Sundays selection with a 5-4 record.

Valley Lutheran volleyball defeated Merrill in straight sets winning 25-8, 25-14, 25-14 over the Vandals on Wednesday.
Sam Shafer led the Chargers with 10 kills and 5 aces, while Katie Hackman tallied 6 kills, Kaelin Martlock added 5 kills and 3 aces and Sarah Appold notched 12 assists.

Merrill dumped host Valley Lutheran in a game that featured 118 points lighting up the scoreboard. The Vandals prevailed in a high scoring 70-48 affair.
