BAD AXE — The Essexville Garber volleyball team took part in Saturday's Bad Axe Hatchet Invitational. It advanced to the quarterfinals of the 16-team event.
The Dukes started the day strong with a string of victories in pool play against Ubly, Flint Kearsley and Marlette before losing to the hosting Bad Axe. This seeded them second behind Bad Axe heading into the elimination tournament. In the tournament's quarterfinal round they were eliminated by Mt. Morris after taking them to three sets.
"We played real well overall," Garber coach Heather Seegraves said. "We learned a lot today. We came alive at the end at just the right time."
