Birch Run took a hit tonight in their season opener against the Chesaning losing to Chesaning 35-19. Chesaning took an early lead in the first quarter scoring the first touchdown on a Deshaun Young 37 yard run.
In the second quarter, Young scored another rushing touchdown of 46 yards, but the Panthers Nate McGuire answered back with a 15 yard run touchdown ending the quarter down 13-7.
In the third quarter, Young scored for the Indians on another long 65 yard run and ran in for the two point conversion ending the quarter with a score of 21- 7.
The Indians put away the game scoring 14 more points on a Young 8 yard run and a Alex Forsyth 6 yard run. Before the game ended, McGuire added another Panther TD breaking free for a 60 yard TD ending the game 35-19.
Derrik Beauchick and Jeremy Hafner each had 11 tackles for the Indians, while Young tallied 7 tackles with a sack.
The Panthers Joe McGrandy played great defense with 12 tackles.
Birch Run hosts North Branch next week and Chesaning Hosts Freeland.
