Heritage's Marquin Evans scored three second half touchdowns to help the Hawks rally for a win over visiting Bay City Central 31-21.
Heritage got on the board first with a 35 yard field goal by Josh Thompson after the Hawks recovered a fumble on the opening kick-off . Bay City Central gained the lead on a Hawk turnover when Austin Jones returned an interception 64 yards for a touchdown. The Wolves led 7-3 at the end of the first quarter.
The Wolves recovered a fumble which later turned into a TD when Jones tossed an 8 yard pass to Alex Chorba in the second quarter to give the Wolves a 14-3 halftime lead.
Heritage went to work in the second half with Thompson catching a 25 yard pass from Hawk QB Jay Carmichael (PAT failed). Marquin Evans ran in from 3 yards and Carmichael tossed a pass to Evans for the two-point conversion pulling the Hawks ahead 17-14.
Evans scampered in 13 yards for a TD in the fourth quarter and Bay City finished the scoring on a 6 yard pass from Brett Leppeck to Jones.
Jay Carmichael completed 9 of 14 passes for 103 yards, 1 TD and 2 INT's, while also rushing for 97 yards for Heritage. Marquin Evans tallied 100 yards rushing with 3 TD's and 22 yards receiving, while Kyle Telder added 23 yards rushing and 35 yards receiving.
Wolf quarterback Austin Jones finished completing 9 of 12 passes for 92 yards and a touchdown.
Heritage (1-0) travels to play Arthur Hil (0-1) next Thursday (Sept. 1), while Bay City Central hosts Mt Pleasant (1-0).
Heritage beat Bay City Central 20-12 in freshman football on Wednesday.
