SAGINAW — The Swan Valley wrestling team won all five of its matches in their own Invite Saturday.
Swan Valley defeated Byron (54-21), Saginaw High (72-12), Ogemaw Heights (64-17), Alpena (57-19) and finally Capac in the final (44-31).
Five wrestlers finished the day 5-0 for the Vikings - Dylan Ewald (112), Colin Dole (130), Zach Rodthlesburger (135), Jared Flores (140) and Jaime Jimenez (215). Ewald recorded his 100th career win by defeating Saginaw High’s Joseph Polk. Rodthlesburger would go on to be named the Lower Weight MVP for the tournament.
Three finished at 4-1 for Swan Valley - Jose Fernandez (103), Mike Borzi (145/152) and Chris Stevenson (189), while Brodi Bartell ended the day with a 3-1 record in the Heavyweight division.
“We’re off to a pretty good start to the season,” Swan Valley coach Darrell Burchfield said. “We’re young and inexperience at a few weight classes but we should get stronger as the season goes on.”
Burchfield and his team next compete in the Pinckney Invite next Thursday.
