BAY CITY — The Bay Area Thunder ice hockey team scored early and often en route to a convincing 10-2 victory over Freeland-Carrollton on Wednesday.

"It was good to get the first win out of the way," Thunder coach Dave LaCourt said. "Everybody played well. It was whole team effort."

The Thunder jumped out early, leading 4-0 after the first period and 9-2 through two periods.

Adam Beuthin and Reid Alexander paced the offense with four goals each. Aaron Martin scored the other two goals while Drew Hanover and Nick Rafaill each tallied three assists.

Connor Spence spent most of the night in goal, making eight saves while allowing two goals. Cameron Connelly also saw time in goal but did not face any shots.

The Thunder opened the season last year with a 5-2 loss to DeWitt. Bay Area trailed 3-2 until the final 30 seconds when DeWitt scored two empty net goals.

Bay Area (1-1) returns to action Friday against Lowell.
