Birch Run Boys Soccer Opens With a Win for New Coach

Birch Run boys soccer started out on a great note for new head coach Zak Sova as the team won 3-1 against visiting Essexville Garber on Monday in TVC Conference action.

The Panthers led the entire way after scoring two first half goals. Essexville scored a second half goal but the Panthers tallied another goal to finish off the scoring and grabbing the win.

Korey Cuthbertson, Dallas VanDuesen and Matt Grim each had 1 goal each for the Panthers. Lupe Ruiz and Adam Bishop each notched 1 assist. Goalie Kevin Abdella made 3 three saves in the net.

Austin McFarland scored the Dukes lone goal with an assist by Lakin Radeka. Goalie Matt Jones had 6 saves.

Birch Run (1-0) takes on Caro Wednesday, while Garber (0-2, 0-1) hosts their home opener against North Branch on Wednesday.
