The Chargers won thier Class C Regional volleyball championship over Unionville Sebewaing Thursday sweeping them 3-0 at Reese. It was the first regional title for valley lutheran since 1983.
The Chargers won by scores of 25-13, 25-17 and 25-22.
The only real challenge was in the third game when USA held a slim 21-20 lead. Junior Sam Shafer rallied the team serving an ace and the Chargers won the next three points and won the match for the title.
Shafer led the team with 23 digs andd 13 kills, while Sarah Appold notched 20 assists, 7 digs and 4 kills. Jessica Askew added 29 digs.
The Chargers (39-17-3) next play 7 p.m. Tuesday against Morley-Stanwood in a Class C state quarterfinal matchup at St. Louis.
