LaMarr Woodley has had quite an amazing year. What could even be more amazing then helping the Pittsburgh Steelers win their sixth Super Bowl?  How about putting more than 300 smiles on the faces of Saginaw area kids.

That is exactly what LaMarr Woodley and Clifton Ryan did on Saturday by hosting the Woodley/Ryan football camp for kids.  This free camp focused on skills, fun and sportsmanship.  Ryan said “The goal of the camp is to have a family fun atmosphere, to show the kids we care about them and that they have a special place in our heart.”

The camp also provided the kids with free food, autographs and a look at LaMarr’s Super Bowl ring and a replication of the Super Bowl trophy.  Providing the kids an example of what hard work and dedication can bring you in life.

Woodley and Ryan had competed against one another since middle school and through that formed a long lasting friendship.  “And it was because of that competition and rivalry that they joined together for the greater good of the community.” Ryan Said.

Ryan says “It feels good to have all of these kids looking up to me, it is a big responsibility.  I wake up every day to give kids a positive role model to look up too.  There just are not a lot of role models out there in our community and we have to cultivate and nurture our kids”

Many NFL stars donated their time for the camp.  The NFL stars included, Marshawn Lynch from the Bills,  Mike Hart from the Colts, Steve Breaston from the Cardinals, Terrance Taylor from the Colts and Stuart Schweigert from the Lions, all with Michigan connections.  There were also players from the Saginaw Sting, Northwood University, U of M and Michigan State.  A new and rejuvenated Charles Roger also gave of his time at the camp; he is in shape and trying to find his way back to the NFL.  He is a different man then two months ago and knows he only has one last possible shot at getting that final opportunity and he is ready.

This year’s camp was a complete success.  “You all worked so hard” Woodley said, when he addressed them at the end. “We can’t wait until next year to work with these kids again.”  The kids left feeling exactly the same way.
