Friday night’s game was bittersweet as Swan Valley lost to Dexter after failing on a two point conversion in overtime. The game started out slow as neither team scored points after a tough 1st quarter.
The 2nd quarter picked up as Swan Valleys Jonathan Grace ran for 91 yards to score the first points of the game. Andy Collison kicked the extra point for a 7-0 Swan Valley lead. Dexter hit back as Seqouyah Burke-Combs ran for 3 yards for the TD, along with a 2 point conversion to bring the score 7-8. A few minutes later Kyle Karagitz kicked a field goal bringing the score to a 7-11 Dexter lead at the end of the quarter.
The 3rd quarter was scoreless as both teams played hard. In the 4th quarter, Karagitz kicked a 28 yard field goal for 3 points to bring the score to 7-14 Dexter lead. Toward the end of the quarter, Vikings QB Cody Call broke in for a 1 yard run to score with Collison kicking the extra point to tie the game 14-14 and forcing the overtime.
In overtime Dexter's Burke-Combs rambled in 10 yards for a TD, with Karagitz scoring the extra point to bring the score to 14-21 to put Dexter in the lead. A few minutes later, Viking Matt Reardon caught a 9 yard pass from Call to score a TD. The Vikings decided to go for the 2 point conversion and failed, bringing the score to a 20-21 Dexter lead. Overtime ended with Dexter taking the win.
Vikings Jonathan Grace rushed for 104 yards and a TD, quarterback Cody Call passed for 34 yards and a TD and rushed for another 43 yards and a TD.
Key players for Dexter were Seqouyah Burke-Combs rushing for 179 yards and 2 TDs, Travis Chaffee had 2 receptions for 34 yards, and Mason Marbyled the defense with 4 tackles and assisted on 8 more.
Although they lost the game, Swan Valley had already secured a spot in the playoffs. The Vikings finish the regular season at 7-2.
