Swan Valley Comes back in 2nd half to Win Football District Final 11-6-09
Stanton Central Montcalm lost to Swan Valley 28-22 in the District Finals Friday night after leading in the first half of the game. Jared Briguglio scored four rushing TDs to lead the Viking to the district title.
With 1:09 left on the clock in the 1st quarter, Montcalm’s Zach Rydal scored a touchdown off a 6 yard pass from Leo Bellows. They decided to go for the 2 point conversion and scored on a run from Drew Sanders. The quarter ended with a 0-8 Montcalm lead.
Swan Valley decided it was time to get some points in the beginning of the 2nd quarter with a 7 yard run from Jared Briguglio. They failed on a 2 point conversion only putting 6 on the board. Both teams played tough but Montcalm was determined to score again. With 30 second left on the clock, Cody Bupp ran for 12 yards for the TD. Jon Fickle kicked the extra point, ending the quarter and going into halftime with Montcalm leading 6-15.
Swan Valley came out of halftime motivated and determined to defend the home field. six minutes into the quarter, Viking Briguglio ran 19 yards to score a TD, with Andy Collison kicking the extra point. Montcalm answered back five minutes later with an 80 yard run. Fickle kicking the extra point. With 1:21 left on the clock, Viking Briguglio scored again on a 3 yard run. Collison kicked the extra point ending the scoring for the 3rd quarter with Montcalm still leading 20-22.
Swan Valley knew it was now or never holding Montcalm to a scoreless fourth quarter. Briguglio scored his fourth TD of the game on a 6 yard run. The Vikings converted the two-point conversion on a pass from Coday Call to Matt Reardon to get a win in the District Finals 28-22.
Swan Valley will go to the Regional’s next week against the winner of the Big Rapids / Kingsford game tomorrow.
