Saginaw Native LaMarr Woodley Named AFC Defensive Player of the Week 1-3-10

Saginaw native and Pittsburg Steeler LaMarr Woodley was named the AFC defensive player of the week for last Sundays game performance.

Woodley recorded 10-tackles (7-solo), 2-sacks (on consecutive plays), a forced fumble and batted a pass (which was intercepted by James Farrior and run in for a TD) against the Baltimore Ravens.

The sacks help out Woodley's Sack Attack program, in which he has pledged $500 for every sack he records this season. The Sack Attack program benefits three organizations serving disadvantaged kids in Michigan and Pittsburgh. The All Stars Helping Kids, the Boys & Girls Club of Western Pennsylvania and Heroes for Kids.

Woodley started the program with a $5,000 donation and has since recorded 11.5 sacks. After starting the season out slow with only 2-sacks in 8-games, Woodley has stepped it up and notched 9.5-sacks in the last 7-games.

Currently Woodley ranks third in the AFC in sacks, first in sacks on the Steelers, and sixth overall in the NFL.

The Steelers last regular season game is Sunday against the Dolphins. The Steelers are 8-7 and need a little help from other teams to get in the playoffs.
