Saginaw High Out-lasts Flint Northwestern 30-16 10-16-09

Saginaw High Trojans enjoyed a wonderful homecoming win last night when they played host to Flint Northwestern.

The 4-4 Trojans ended the first quarter in a stalemate. While the second quarter put both teams on the board with 8 points apiece, the real action didn’t start until the third quarter.

Fresh out of half time with 10:33 left on the clock, Terry Simmons scored on a 48-yard run (2 point conversion failed) putting the Trojans up 14-8. At the 8:51 mark the Trojans intercepted the ball which resulted in a touchdown by Chris Williams with 5:22 left.  Add the 2 point conversion and the score was now 22-8.

Northwestern answered with a 5 yard TD run with 2:37 left, followed by a 2 point conversion which gave Northwestern some hope with a 22-16 score. But the Trojans would not be outdone, Simmons scored on a 7-yard run with 0:43 left on the clock and punctuated it with another 2 point conversion changing the score to 30-16.

The fourth quarter resulted in another stalemate, with neither team scoring. The Trojans ending it with an interception with 0:19 left in regulation.

To have a shot at the play-offs the Trojans will have to win their next and final regular season game against Arthur Hill High School in the Alumni Classic. The two will meet next Friday at Arthur Hill.
