NateTack Has Big Second Quarter, Leads Merrill Past Whittemore-Prescott 33-26 11-6-09

Nate Tack had a big second quarter leading Merrill past Whittemore-Prescott 33-26 on the road. Tack threw five TDs with three in the second quarter for the Vandals second round playoff game. Merril won the district title and will advance to regional playoffs.

Whittemore jumped out to a 12-0 lead with a 9-yard TD pass followed by a 1-yard run, both times trying for the two-point conversion and failing.

The Vandals were not rattled and countered in the second quarter with three passing TDs from Tack. The first was a 7-yard pass to Jimmy Schoof, followed by a 9-yard pass again to Schoof. Tack then hit Kyle Mayan with 18-yard pass with 53-seconds for a 21-12 lead at the half.

Tack picked up right where he left off, connecting with Tyler Gross on a 39-yard TD pass in the third quarter. Whittemore then broke loose on a 78-yard rushing TD. Merrill responded with a TD of their own when Tack hit Schoof for his third receiving TD.

Whittemore scored the final TD in the fourth quarter on a 7-yard run and converted the two-point conversion. The Vandals defense held on for a 33-26 win.

The 8-3 Vandals advance to the regionals and play the winner of the Potterville-Ravenna game played tommorrow.
