Millington Beats Ovid-Elsie to Advance To Football State Semi-Final Game 11-14-09 Friday night was a good night for Millington as they defeated previously unbeaten Ovid-Elsie in the Division 2 Regional Finals 22-21. The Marauder’s star running back Chris Robinson and Millington’s Cameron Wilson traded touchdowns, each scoring three. It was the Cardinals Wilson that made the difference, running in a two-point conversion for the 1-point win. Ovid-Elsie was the first to score in the first quarter when Robinson ran for 56 yards to score a touchdown. Dustin Karlik then kicked the extra point for a 7-0 lead at quarter’s end. The second quarter turned out to be very exciting as Millington’s Cameron Wilson ran for 8 yards and the TD with 2:10 left on the clock. Mitchell Wilkerson kicked the extra point to tie the game. Ovid’s Robinson answered back with 34.6 seconds left on the clock off a 5 yard run for a TD and Dustin Karlik kicked the extra point. With no time left on the clock, Millington score again on a 44 yard run by Wilson for a TD. Wilkerson kicked the extra point to end the half 14-14. Both teams came out in the second half playing tough defense keeping the quarter scoreless. On the first play of the 4th quarter the Marauder’s Robinson ran 66 yards for a TD,Karlick kicked the extra point to take the lead. Millington was forced to punt on their next possession but got the ball back on a fumble recovery. With 4:51 left on the clock, Millington’s Wilson ran 5 yards for a TD. They decided to go for the conversion and scored off the run by Wilson. The decision payed off for Millington as that was the end of the scoring and Millington beat Ovid-Elsie 22-21. Key player for Millington were Cameron Wilson with 196 yards rushing, Matt Harington with 88 yards and John Stutler with 22 yard. Key players for Ovid-Elsie were Chris Robinson with 206 yards rushing and 58 yards receiving. This season, Robinson has rushed for an incredible 2,692 yards. Millington goes on to play Clare next week on November 21st at location to be announced. |
