Midland High Beats Cross Town Rival Dow 14-0 10-23-09

The Chemics beat Dow on Friday night as the cross town rivals each fought to win the last game of the regular season. The first quarter was uneventful as each team held the ground and no one scored. The victory for Midland High is the eighth straight win over Dow.

In the 2nd quarter  Chemic Alex Rapanos ran for an 8 yard TD run with Matt Frazier kicking the extra point to give Midland a 7-0 lead. They would take that lead into the lock room at halftime.

In the 3rd quarter, Chemic Matt Alcott ran 9 yards for a TD with Frazier booting the extra point to end the scoring for the game. The Chemics defense held on to the 14-0 score for the victory.

Key players for Dow were Trenton Dunford with 11 tackles, Jonathan Russell with 5 tackles, and Peter Crampton with 5 tackles. Alex Rapanos ran for 22 yards and a TD and Charlie Leffingwell added 112 yards rushing.

Midland High finished 6-1 in the SVL League and 8-1 overall to secure a berth in the playoffs. The Chemics are ranked #2 in the Associated Press in division 2, and will likely host a first round playoff game.
