Ithaca' s Niznak Throws 3 TDs Runs For Another in Win Over St Charles 11-13-09
The Bulldogs got on the board first but four unanswered TDs by Ithaca put the Bulldogs back against the wall.
Tyler Larsen scored on a 50-yard run to put the Bulldogs up 7-0 in the first quarter. With just over one minute in the quarter Niznak connected with Darin Wideman on a 18-yard TD pass, but the Yellow Jackets failed to hit the PAT, 7-6.
Ithaca scored the only points in the second quarter with two minutes left in the half when Niznak hit David Brown on a 24-yard pass in the left corner. The two point conversion failed and Ithaca took a 12-7 lead into the locker room.
Niznak scored on a 30-yard rushing TD running up the middle and breaking tackles, and again the two point conversion failed. Four minutes later Niznak tossed his third TD of the game hitting Luke Capen down the right side on a 20-yard pass. With 59-seconds left in the third, Travis Crane ran up the middle for a 6-yard TD, the two point conversion run failed to get in the endzone. 25-13 Yellow Jackets at the end of the third.
In the fourth quarter it was all David Brown for Ithaca throwing a 4-yard TD pass to Christian Marble and then running in a 14-yard TD to end the scoring with a 39-13 Ithaca win.
The Yellow Jackets seemed to have the Bulldogs number, stopping the running game from being very effective in scoring. In the first meeting the Bulldogs ran for 493-yards and had three runners run for over 100-yards each, and another player run for 95-yards. This time only Tyler Larsen was able to go over the century mark with 110-yards. The Bulldogs finished with 212-yards rushing and 69-yards passing.
St Charles finished the season at 10-2 with a share of the TVC West title. They earned when a share when they beat Ithaca on November 16.
Larsen led the Bulldog offense with 110-yards rushing and 1-TD. Crane ran for 60-yards and 1-TD and Tyler Nieman caught 4-passes for 69-yards.
Niznak finished with 3-TD passes, completing 14 of 21 for 197-yards and 1-rushing TD with 108 yards.
The win gives the Yellow Jackets it's first ever regional title. Ithaca will play the winner of the Iron Mountain - Montague game tomorrow at Northern Michigan.
