Heritage Ends Football Season with a Muddy 29-0 Win 10-23-09 It rained yet again Friday night, as Heritage played its final game of the season against Flint Southwestern Academy. Despite the rain and muddy field the Hawks claimed a 29-0 victory over the Knights. The Hawks played strong as Gabe Nicholson returned a punt, running down the sideline 40 yards for a touchdown putting Heritage on the board. Brandon Brown then scored the extra point to give Heritage a 7-0 1st quarter lead. ![]()

Bishop Ready Beats Nouvel in Final Season Game 10-25-09 Nouvel suffered a devastating season end as Columbus Bishop Ready ran circles around them. With many of the starting players hurt, Nouvel just could not stop the running plays as Bishop Ready scored 20 points in the first quarter. Bishop Ready then went on to score 16 more points in the second quarter, but Nouvel was able to put 7 on the board for the only points they would score for the game. Both teams left the field at halftime as the rain started coming down to make the field even harder to navigate. With a 7-36 Bishop Ready lead. Arthur Hill Ends Season 0-8 After Loss To Saginaw High 10-25-09 Arthur Hill ended it's season 0-8 after a 14-0 loss to Saginaw High in the Alumni Classic at Arthur Hill Saturday afternoon. With the win, the Trojans ended a four year winning streak by the Lumberjacks. The Lumberjacks are still a young team and is in the midst of rebuilding it's program under first year coach Anwar Jackson. They only have one returning starter from last years team. The Trojans find themselves in a similar position under the direction of first year coach Gary Lee. But unlike Jackson, Lee has several years of experience, coaching in the Flint school district. ![]() ![]() ![]()

District Finals St Charles Blows Out Visiting Sandusky 10-31-09 Sandusky came to play St Charles in a Division 6 playoff game and was blown out by host St Charles 51-12. Sandusky scored the first touchdown and the last touchdown, but it was all St Charles in between. Sandusky ran in for the first score from 28 yards, but failed to convert the two-point conversion. A few minutes later Tyler Larsen ran 55-yards for the first of his two TDs. Millington Knocks Carrollton From Football Playoffs With A 53-21 Win 10-31-09 8-1 Carrollton traveled to Millington to take on the 8-1 Cardinals in a division 5 playoff game and was soundly defeated 53-21. The Cardinals jumped out to a big lead scoring three first quarter TDs for a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Justin Stutler scored on a 5-yard run, Jesse Stewart scored on a 62-yard run and Stutler scored again on a 14-yard run. Mitchell Wilkerson converted the PAT after all three TDs. Vikings Advance in Football Playoffs With Win Over Portland 10-31-09 Swan Valley beat Portland in the District 2 Semifinals in Portland, MI Friday night ending Portland’s hope of going to the State Finals. Both teams played strong defense with no one scoring in the first quarter. Swan Valley’s Cody Call ran in 4 yards to help the Vikings score first in the 2nd quarter, but the extra point was no good. Portland hit back as Alexander Newman scored a TD on a 10 yard run. They tried for a conversion, but failed. The first half ended with a 6-6 tie. In the 3rd quarter Viking Jonathan Grace scored on a 3 yard run, again they missed the extra point. Portland failed to score with the quarter ending with a 12-6 Viking lead. Falcons Lose in District Semifinals 10-31-09 Freeland’s football season came to an end Friday night as they lost to Clare 20-25 in the District 2 Semifinals. Clare scored the first points of the game after Kris English ran in for a 3 yards and then kicked the extra point. With 3 minutes left in the quarter Clare’s Tyler Gillis ran in for 4 yards and then he again scored on a 2 point conversion to bring the score to a 0-15 Clare lead at the end of the quarter. Freeland was able to score in the second quarter with 2:22 on the clock after Dave Ruhlman ran 2 yards for the TD. Ruhlman score 2 more points on the conversion. St Charles Runs Over Reese 35-14 In Second Round Playoff Football Game 10-31-09 St Charles did what they do best and ran over Reese in their second round match-up 35-14. The Bulldog's single-wing offense led to five rushing TDs including two by Tyler Nieman in the third quarter to put the game away. Dugan Roosa got the Bulldogs on the board first with a 5-yard TD run for a 7-0 lead after the first quarter. Mike Spannagel broke loose in the second quarter and ran in for a 38-yard TD, Travis Crane booted in the PAT for a 14-0 Bulldog lead. St Charles was looking to take that lead into the half but a fumble recovery by the Bulldogs was negated by a penalty which led to Kyle Yaklin hitting Trevor Gruber on a 38-yard TD pass with 46-seconds left in the half. The Bulldogs took the 14-7 lead into the locker room at the half. ![]() NateTack Has Big Second Quarter, Leads Merrill Past Whittemore-Prescott 33-26 11-6-09 Nate Tack had a big second quarter leading Merrill past Whittemore-Prescott 33-26 on the road. Tack threw five TDs with three in the second quarter for the Vandals second round playoff game. Merril won the district title and will advance to regional playoffs. Whittemore jumped out to a 12-0 lead with a 9-yard TD pass followed by a 1-yard run, both times trying for the two-point conversion and failing. The Vandals were not rattled and countered in the second quarter with three passing TDs from Tack. Swan Valley Comes back in 2nd half to Win Football District Final 11-6-09 Stanton Central Montcalm lost to Swan Valley 28-22 in the District Finals Friday night after leading in the first half of the game. Jared Briguglio scored four rushing TDs to lead the Viking to the district title. With 1:09 left on the clock in the 1st quarter, Montcalm’s Zach Rydal scored a touchdown off a 6 yard pass from Leo Bellows. They decided to go for the 2 point conversion and scored on a run from Drew Sanders. The quarter ended with a 0-8 Montcalm lead. ![]()
