Flint Native Mark Ingram Wins Heisman Trophy 12-14-09
Flint native Mark Ingram has brought home the Heisman Trophy, college footballs most prestigious award. In the closest voting ever for the trophy Ingram (Alabama) beat out Stanford running back Toby Gerhart by only 28 points. ingram played his high school football at Flint Southwestern Academy. He has two more years of eligibility left to play for Alabama which has it's first Heisman winner in it's long storied football program. Ingram led his team with 1,542 yards (which is a new school record) and 18 touchdowns. Alabama went undefeated on the year and is lined up to take on Texas for the BCS National Championship on January 7 in the Rose Bowl. Ingram is on the dean's list at Alabama where he is pursuing a degree in communications. While in high school he ran for 2,546 yards and 38 touchdowns in his final two seasons playing for Southwestern. Ingram set the Flint records for rushing yards (377) and touchdowns (7) in a game. In his senior year he was named Saginaw Valley MVP, Area Player of the Year and was an All-State selection. Ingram was coached by current Saginaw High head coach Gary Lee while in high school. Ingram's father was an NFL player and won a Super Bowl ring while playing for the New York Giants. |
