Delta Improves to 6-1 After Defeating Grand Rapids C.C. 80-71 at Home 11-19-09
Delta College improved it's men's basketball record to 6-1 after defeating Grand Rapids Community College 80-71 at home Wednesday evening. After falling behind 35-33 at the end of the first half, Delta came out of the lockeroom charged up and played a great defensive game to get the win. The Pioneers defense, sometime playing a full court press caused the Raiders to turn the ball over 25 times and tallied 17-steals. Delta had five players score in double figures with Brice Powell leading the way with 19-points, 5-rebounds and 4-steals. Derico Sanders contributed with 13-points, 6-rebounds, Winthrop Thomas had 12-points, 4-rebounds, Rahumus Wingard 11-points, 4-rebounds, and Jacob Boileau tallied 10-points and 1-rebound. Coach David Smith said "We knew what was wrong and we fixed itwe were getting out-rebounded and that was the difference." Point guard Derico Sanders is the team leader so far into the season and coach Smith said Sanders," is from Grand Rapids so he really brought it toaday." Delta's next game is Saturday at 3 pm at Kellogg Comunity College and their next home game is Tuesday Nov. 24 at 7:30. Head on out and support the team! ![]() ![]() ![]()
